How, you might ask, did an award-winning writer like myself get started selling T-shirts on the internet? It happened like this.

I was standing in line at the grocery store, tapping my foot impatiently as the minutes ticked by. I was on deadline, anxious to get back to my keyboard and hammer out the last paragraph of an article due that day. As I looked at the people in line with me, I noted the man behind me was a bass fisherman. The woman in front of me vacationed in Cancun. The fellow at the head of the line worked for an air conditioning company. All this I ascertained from their T-shirts.

Suddenly, it dawned on me. The only person in that line whose employment or leisure-time activity could not be identified by their T-shirt was....ME. The people around me had absolutely no way of knowing that I'm a writer. And lacking this information, they had no incentive to let me jump to the front of the line, a consideration surely due to someone of my profession. What I need, I told myself, what I really MUST have, is a T-shirt that shows the world I'm a writer.

I went home that day, finished my article, then jumped on the internet and Googled for a T-shirt. One that said "Writer," but meant "I could be in Cancun catching some stupid bass if I wanted to, but I'm too busy creating ART, you morons."

You probably already know that I found little or nothing directed at writers. That day, Write Side Out was conceived. And now here it is, eager to add status and respectability to your life. All the designs on Write Side Out gear are created by me. I developed my design skills creating for companies like McCall's Patterns and Crafts. And I used my sensibilities as an award-winning writer for newspapers and magazines to choose the quotes that breathe life into my gear. Each design reflects the highs and lows of life as a wordsmith, a life you and I would not change if we could. Look through my designs. Find the ones that speak to you. And start wearing your Write Side Out. After all, if you don't tell the world you're special...who will?
