Writers, like artists, actors and other creatives, need to play in order to work. Play stimulates our imagination and fills us with enthusiasm. It is the very source of  creativity and uniqueness. We invite you, then, to abandon routine rationality and indulge in a few minutes of fun.

MAKE MY ANNE FRANK 3-D MINI POSTER

Anne Frank (Annelies Marie Frank) was born June 12, 1929. In March 1945, two months before the German surrender, Anne died of typhoid fever in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Her work, however, lived on to be published in every language and every nation in the world. Make my 3-Dimensional mini poster and pay tribute to a young writer who wondered, long before her work became an immortal classic, if she had any real talent.

Time needed to complete this project: about 10 minutes

Supplies needed to complete this project:
color printer
8 1/2 by 11 inch white or cream card stock
scissors
white glue or glue stick
scraps of corrugated cardboard

Actual size of 3-D poster is 4 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches tall.

STEP ONE : Right-click here and choose the menu selection "save link as" to download the PDF file. Save it to your hard drive. Print the 8 1/2 by 11 inch image on standard white or cream color card stock. Remember to tell your printer you are using cardstock or heavyweight matte paper.

STEP TWO: Cut out the gray background square, the quote and the figure of Anne Frank.

STEP THREE: Make the spacers by cutting small squares, about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch, from scraps of corrugated cardboard. You could also use a wine cork cut into 1/8th inch thick slices, or even small slices of Styrofoam. Glue three spacers to the BACK of the Anne Frank figure. Let it dry.

STEP FOUR: Glue the Anne Frank figure RIGHT SIDE UP to the right hand side of the gray background. In this photo, you can see how the corrugated cardboard spacers raise the figure up from the background and make it dimensional.

Place the quote at an angle (see the illustration) on the left-hand side of the background. Glue it in place. If you like, you can use one or two spacers to lift the quote slightly. I used one spacer in the upper right corner of the quote.

YOU'RE DONE!  You can paste a bit of ribbon to the back of the poster to make a hanger, or just pin the mini poster to your bulletin board. Keep it where you can see it while you are writing, as a reminder that every writer questions their talent from time to time.
